Pay Structure:

Pay Structure:

PILI issues a $5,000 grant to the host-agency; the agency places the Intern on its payroll, deducts taxes, and pays the Intern as a regular, temporary employee.

Fellows are paid by their sponsoring firms, not by PILI nor by their host agencies. Each firm handles payment differently: some will pay their fellows at the start of the summer, the end of the summer, or via regular firm payroll.

PILI’s Interns and Graduate Fellows also share many important similarities:

» Both Interns and Fellows receive a unique opportunity to gain valuable, hands-on experience in Chicago’s public interest law community.

» Both Interns and Fellows are included in the host agency’s daily operations and receive excellent opportunities for direct client contact,

improving legal research and writing skills, and even court experience (Interns and Fellows may obtain and use a 711 license).

» Both Interns and Fellows are included in PILI’s Educational Program, a series of summer luncheon seminars with renowned speakers who

address various relevant issues in the practice and profession of public interest law.

» Both Interns and Fellows are included in a series of PILI-sponsored social events to network with like-minded law students and new lawyers.

NOTE: PILI does offer a limited number of Internships during the school-year and, by special arrangement with sponsoring law firms, school-

year Fellowships as well.
