Executive Director

Susan Curry joined PILI as its Executive Director in 2004. Her public interest law career spans nearly 20 years. Admitted to the bars of both Illinois and Minnesota, she has served as the Executive Director of the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago, the Minnesota Justice Foundation and the P-Fund Foundation. She began her early legal career in Chicago as an associate with the law firm of Gardner, Carton & Douglas, then moved to the public interest sector where she served as a staff counsel first for for the Better Government Association and, then, for the Illinois Guardianship & Advocacy Commission’s Legal Advocacy Service. She is the immediate past Chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Legal Aid Committee and serves on the Board of Directors of Illinois Legal Aid Online and the Illinois Equal Justice Coalition.
Susan earned her J.D. from the University of Notre Dame College of Law, and also holds a Master’s degree in public affairs/nonprofit management from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey Institute.

Karen Albrandt
Director of Development & Communications
Karen Albrandt joined the Public Interest Law Initiative in 2003. Her career in social services includes management and fundraising experience in a variety of health and social welfare issues. Karen is a graduate of the School of Social Service Administration, University of Chicago.

Pro Bono Initiative Director
Prior to joining PILI in 2006 as the Director of the Pro Bono Initiative (PBI), Michael served as the Guardian Ad Litem Program Director for Chicago Volunteer Legal Services (CVLS) since 2003. He is a member of The Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and he serves on a number of bar-related committees and boards of not for profits. Frequently recognized for his contributions to the bar, Michael was also named the 2005 recipient of the Kimball and Karen Anderson Public Interest Law Fellowship from The Chicago Bar Foundation, given each year to an outstanding law school graduate working in the area of public interest law.
Michael earned his B.A. in Politics from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law. Prior to and during law school, Michael was a consultant with the Financial Planning Solutions Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, responsible for project management and business development.

Financial Assistant
Michael Mollet joined PILI as its part-time Financial Assistant in 2002 and is responsible for keeping the agency's financial records and reconciling accounts. Currently pursuing his Master's degree, Michael also holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of Notre Dame and has worked at the Chicago Board Options Exchange since 2005.

Dan Schwarzlose
Director of Education & Administration

Dan Schwarzlose joined the Public Interest Law Initiative in 2002. A former teacher, Dan is intently committed to the educational quality of PILI’s Internship & Fellowship programs. Dan is also an active artist, musician, and arts administrator. He co-directs the Elastic Arts Foundation, a performance space and visual art gallery in Chicago’s Logan Square, and serves as Media Artist for Moto Restaurant, where he collaborates with world-renowned chef Homaro Cantu. Dan’s synesthesia-themed art explores all of the senses and blurs boundaries between performance art, neuroscience, and the culinary arts.
Dan holds an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Art & Media from Columbia College and a B.A. in English from Northwestern University.
