In Illinois, PILI, along with The Chicago Bar Foundation, has been working with the state's public interest law organizations to gather information about these organizations, their ability to host extended placements and the types of work available for the placement. We have developed a list of Participating Agencies that we are continuously updating with information about agencies in Illinois that may be accepting Extended Placements.
If you are looking for an Extended Placement, PILI is able to provide you with assistance in securing such as position at participating public interest law organizations in Illinois. You should review the list of Participating Agencies and send a list of your top choices, along with your resume, anticipated start date at the agency, anticipated start date at the firm and the firm you will be working to us by e-mail. We will then share your resume with our contacts at the organizations. The public interest law organizations are interviewing candidates and are the ones responsible for making the offer to Extended Placement candidates.
A national clearinghouse also has been set up through PSLawNet for firms and legal aid organizations to post and/or find available placements on a national level. PSLawNet has added a new "job type" to their search interface - "Law Firm Associate Host" - to specifically mark positions suitable for these kinds of placement. Searches may also be narrowed geographically and by practice area. Get started by clicking here.
Trainings are being organized by PILI and others at a local and national level for attorneys serving in extended public interest law placements. Click here for more details.
