Each summer, as part of its Internship and Fellowship Programs, PILI organizes educational and skills-building seminars during the lunch hour for Interns and Fellows on a variety of substantive law and professional development topics. This year, PILI launched a training series for alumni to learn about specific areas of law and related pro bono opportunities with public interest law organizations. Lunch and 1.0 hour of CLE credit will be provided to those who attend each training. The next CLE program will be hosted by Jones Day on Monday, August 2nd from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. and will feature Chicago Volunteer Legal Services. Click on the above link for more details.

The Corporate Pro Bono Roundtable Series provides corporate pro bono leaders with an opportunity to network, discuss the unique pro bono challenges facing corporate attorneys and to share best practices and strategies for successful pro bono programs. The last Corporate Pro Bono Roundtable was held on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 12:00 to 1:30 at GE Capital Americas Legal in Rosemont, IL.
PILI, in conjunction with The Chicago Bar Foundation, organizes and hosts (typically) two programs each year that bring together pro bono leaders from law firms, corporations, law schools and legal aid agencies to discuss timely pro bono issues and share pro bono best practices. The 2010 Pro Bono Forum was held on Tuesday, May 25, 2010.
Each year, PILI will organize one or more evening programs for Alumni that focus on a maintaining the connection of PILI's alumni to the public interest law community. Following the program, there is an informal networking reception for attendees. In 2010, the program focused on providing information to alumni about pro bono, board service and other volunteer opportunities within the public interest law community. PILI, in conjunction with The Chicago Bar Foundation, organizes and hosts two programs each year that bring together legal aid agencies to discuss pro bono program management best practices. The first program in the 2010 CBF & PILI Agency Series is entitled "Making the Most of Available Volunteers" and will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2010. Click the above link for more details.
Trainings are being organized by PILI and others at a local and national level for attorneys serving in extended public interest law placements. The last training was held on Wednesday, October 21st.
PILI is a co-sponsor of the annual Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section Pro Bono and Community Service Fair, which is held each year during the CBA/CBF Pro Bono Week in October. In 2009, this event was hosted by Kirkland & Ellis on Thursday, October 29th.
