PROGRAMS: participating agencies

Internship Program

PILI Interns (first or second year law students) work at, and learn about, legal institutions serving the public interest. PILI raises the funds necessary to support dozens of student Internships ($5,000 per full-time summer intern) at our participating agencies.

Fellowship Program

Graduate Fellows (recent law school graduates) are sponsored by one of nearly two dozen Chicago law firms, each of which absorbs the salary costs of their new associates who choose to work as PILI Fellows. PILI Fellows have the scheduling flexibility that allows them to participate in formal bar review and take the bar examination during their Fellowships.

Law Firm Extended Placement Program

PILI encourages law firms to provide the opportunity for firm attorneys to be placed at a public interest law organizations for an extended period of time. These programs, known as Rotation Programs, Secondments or Pro Bono Fellowships, have been adopted by several law firms in their Chicago offices, including Jones Day and Katten Muchin & Rosenman.  Additionally, PILI attempts to assist area law firms with developing extended fellowship and/or rotation models, through which new associates serve year-long placements at PILI participating agencies.
